About the Site
This site is merely a scratch pad for a few topics I’m interested in: business, economics, personal finance, and investing, among others.
There are those out there who are not too different than I, and are trying to accomplish the same goals. Hopefully this site will allow us to compare notes through the interaction of the users through the Comments feature of the site.
In a subliminal way I started this site to keep me on my toes. I have found that there is no better way to learn than to teach, or to bring it down one level, to explain. I feel a lot more comfortable in my decisions if I can explain why I made them, hence, my own personal e-scratchpad.
The beauty of it is that it’s all laid out on the line. You don’t agree with my decisions? Would you do something different? You think I might be on to something? Let me know! Give me your comments; it’s what makes a blog interactive!
About Me
I am a 28 year old engineer in the mid-west. I’m married to a wonderful woman, and live in a modest house. We have two cats and no kids (yet). I graduated from college and landed an engineering position right out of college, and realized that my desk was taking me nowhere fast. Being a small company of four engineers, there were no promotions to be had, no possibility to make my way up the corporate ladder, and I was never free to use my imagination. The company was micro-managed into oblivion, which made it hard to look forward to going to work.
I jumped ship for about a year, and learned a lot about the oil and gas industry. For about 8 months I oversaw production and maintenance work in an oil field in the Midwest, and was fortunate enough to buy a small working interest in production in Oklahoma.
Being in the middle of an oil boom, engineering jobs were easy to come by, and paid very well. However I never saw myself moving from the aerospace industry to the oil field, even though the money was better in oil and gas.
I decided to take a job in flight test at a local avionics developer, and can’t be more happy with my decision. The atmosphere is great, the benefits are great, the challenge is great, and most importantly, the opportunity is great. I’ve been given a long rope to either lasso the world or hang myself. So far, I’m doing rather well, and my contribution to the company and the industry as a whole is being well received.
I still look for oil and gas opportunities on a regular basis, and am always interested in finding the next sweet real estate acquisition.
Please feel free to chime in on any given topic, I’m always looking for guidance!
