People Watching, Part II
Another part of “people watching” I enjoy is pondering how times have so changed, particularly at the airport.
I can’t recall if I’ve written about this before, but I can’t help but notice the change in attire on passengers at the airport over the last 10 years or so. I suppose I haven’t yet accepted the true power of competition in the airline industry, but I can’t help but wonder how some people can afford a plane ticket.
Any more, business suits, button down shirts and dresses have given way to short shorts, tank tops and flip flops. In fact, the two-piece suit is now the minority in the terminal building.
I’m not sure why I’m bothered by this, perhaps its a lack of respect for the industry, lack of leadership in the industry as a whole, or maybe I’m completely out of touch with the real world.
Two years ago, I was in Miami when an American Airlines 767 rolled in from New York, and you’d think a Greyhound buss had become lost and pulled into the gate. What’s tragic is that a bus ticket was more expensive than a ride on a jet.
My how times have changed.

Interesting ! Well, we in Malaysia seem to be doing well we have high growth and high inflation. An example of inflation would be the local desert “cendol” bought about a month ago at the price of $1.20 in local currency would now sell for $ 1.80 in local currency. Job growth is also strong as we have 2 jobs for every worker and Malaysia imports in foreign labour to do jobs that local workers do not want to do. Hence our problem in Malaysia is now high inflation and good news, high growth.. We do not understand why the Western Media keeps on saying we are in a Recession. Yes our economy slowed down in March 2009 but after that period our economy is now experiencing high growth and high inflation thanks to China’s strong buying of Malaysian goods and services, thank you China ! So please do not say Malaysia is in a Recession when it is not, only the US is in a Recession, the rest of the World is booming thanks to China !
Chris, I don’t think that was the writers point at all. He seemed to ba referring to the difference in professional attire etc. There was no mention of a world recession, nor insult to any other country so your offence is uneeded.
