Stock Thoughts: Duncan Energy Partners

Tuesday, April 10th, 2007

In looking for additional places to dump my Roth IRA money, I came across Duncan Energy Partners (DEP: chart, web, Y!).

Duncan Energy Partners is a limited partnership formed by Enterprise Products Partners in September 2006 to acquire, own and operate a diversified portfolio of midstream energy assets. Operations are organized into three business segments:

NGL & Petrochemical Storage Services segment, which consists of 33 salt dome caverns located in Mont Belvieu, Texas, with an underground storage capacity of approximately 100 MMBbls

Natural Gas Pipelines & Services segment, which consists of an onshore natural gas pipeline system that gathers, transports, stores and markets natural gas in Louisiana

Mr. Landlord, the Easter Bunny hid our keys…

Monday, April 9th, 2007

Easter weekend was shaping up to be rather quiet and uneventful, right up until I was ready to walk out the door to go to Easter dinner.

“Yeah, Grant? My roommate and I both left our keys in the house, and we need to get in pretty quick so we can go to Easter dinner with our parents…”

My first thought was “yeah, me too. See you in a couple hours…”

Then, after preventing thought from turning into noise, I realized that I had provisions for this in the lease.

“That’ll be $50, payable by Friday, I’ll be there in an hour.”

So …

Emigrant Direct: Card Carrying Member

Monday, April 9th, 2007

I’ve leaped into the world of online savings accounts by opening an account with Emigrant Direct.

About a week ago, I got online and went through the process of opening an account. I filled out all the forms, and indicated I’d want to initially transfer $500 from my savings account to the online account, earning 5.05% compounded daily, and paid monthly.

Sure enough, one business day later, I had the two verification deposits in my Bank of America account required to verify that the banking information I provided was correct.

I started with $500 just to see how the system worked, but I’ll start …

The Tax Man Cometh

Saturday, April 7th, 2007

April 17th is nearly upon us, and if you haven’t started on your taxes, you might think about it.

While you scramble to organize your W-2’s, receipts and 1099’s, keep these benefits in mind:

Telephone Excise Tax Refund: This is a one time refund of a long distance excise tax available on your 2006 returns. It applies to charges billed from March 2003 through July 2006 from your phone company. While the government offers a standard refund amount of $30 to $60, you can also calculate the actual tax paid, and get that money back. For me, it wasn’t worth the hassle of sorting through all my phone bills. Businesses …

Blogroll: PluggedInFinance

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

I came across a blog post tonight that caught my attention as it is of similar topic to TheCornerOfficeBlog.

Finance Junkie writes about DRIPs, with interest in 3M, Bank of America, Yahoo, Exxon, among others. He’s also bringing in a little cash through Prosper.com loans.

However, after reading a little further, I realized that PluggedInFinance is blogging from Afghanistan! He’s a Navy guy who’s been converted to Army infantry to free up thinly-stretched personnel.

Check out his blog, and if anything drop him a quick email or comment!

Also, he enjoys handing out candy and supplies to the local Afghan kids, and is always looking for care packages, in …

Got Funds? Buy Africa! Heck, buy the world!

Sunday, April 1st, 2007

OK, so the title of this post is a bit misleading. But it is true, Africa is for sale.

OK, so that’s a bit misleading as well.

However, if you’d like a little piece of “The World” development off of the coast of Dubai, scrounge the change out of the couch and pick your island.

Ireland was just purchased for AED 142 million, which translates into about $38 million USD.

Personally, I find this “real estate development” very intriguing, and it proves how strong the world economy really is. However, knowing what little I fully understand about our own US …
