I’ve got a golden ticket…
March 7th, 2007 by Grant in: Banking, SavingA couple weeks ago a post about the new dollar coins sparked some debate on whether the coins will ever replace the paper currency equivalent.
EmptySpaces at “Adventures In Money Making” came across a few golden Georgie’s and kind of liked the “In God We Trust” engraved around the outside edge of the coin. He also mentioned that he couldn’t understand why people were selling them on eBay for more than $1. After all, you can go to the bank and “pay” a single dollar for each coin they give you, and they don’t even make a profit on the transaction! 
Well, as it turns out, a few of these coins may in fact be worth more than a dollar. About 50,000 new George Washington dollar coins were struck without their “In God We Trust” edge inscriptions, and are fetching around $50 apiece online (you guessed it, eBay).
Evidently, these coins went into circulation on February 15th, so it may just be that you’ve got one in your pocket.
