Be right back, gone to the hardware store…

Trisha at Building an Empire posted a video on a new trend circulating the internet called “Lock Bumping”. Evidently, by modifying a generic key, you can tap on it to open nearly any door you wish, leaving in question your actual security.

While I’m a firm believer that if someone really wants in your house, they won’t be coming through a door, this little fad makes it that much easier to breech security.

For those who know where I live, please call for an appointment to come visit my two new Rottweilers…

I love how the news channels keep showing this video so that every would-be crook can learn how to do this. Let’s empower more thieves with skills they can use.

wow that’s amazing… thanks for the tip

I agree Martin, but you also have to look at the other side of the coin, too. If the word gets out that brand “X” locks don’t do diddly against would-be perps, it might just lead homeowners to upgrade their locks to something more secure.

Of course, this is only effective if the message reaches (and has an effect on) more homeowners than criminals…

Hey! I worked at that TV station when I lived in Memphis.

Thanks for the heads up Grant. Time to get some new locks (I just have to figure out where we are going to live first ;)

I agree, Grant. If a true criminal wants to break into your house, they’re going to do it one way or another.

I think Martins point is though that this widespread advertisement could make criminals out of people who are otherwise good people. j
