All Out of Cornerstone
January 21st, 2007 by admin in: InvestingDividends or no dividends, I finally saw the light in Cornerstone. It’s tough to walk away from a 14% return on your money, but if you learn all your lessons the hard way, it’ll be a rough road to the finish. Assuming you do finish the race!
Now that I’ve cashed out, I need to find a good place to put my money to work. Ford is attractive, but carries some inherent risk. I’m overweight in Provident Energy and need to find a sector separated from oil and gas…
Gold is also attractive, but the direction of the economy is still hanging in the balances, and could go either way, depending on which talking head you listen to.
For now, its cash. Cold hard cash. And while it may not deliver the returns, it certainly carries no risk.
So for now, I’ll continue to sit on the sidelines and watch. Hopefully the economy will find a direction, any direction, and it’ll be easier to find a place to jump in.

“it certainly carries no risk.”
Everything has risk, just different types of risk. That said, I am a fan of cash right now too.

Don’t take this as an opinion as to where our economy is going, but I heard a lot of “cash is king” talk 5 months ago and equities have had a great return within that time. First off, what will tip you off as to where our economy is going? Second, I hear a lot of people eager and waiting for a pullback, but what if this is the beginning of an unprecedented long-term bull market? Everyone says September through November are terrible times for the market, yet that time period gave the largest percentage gain of the year. I guess I’m saying that seasonality has lost some of its clout….
