Nuclear Media: AhmadineBlog
August 20th, 2006 by Grant in: GeneralWell, well, well. Look who we have here!
President (or dictator, depending on who he wants wiped off the map next) Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iraq has entered the blogosphere in an attempt to win over the hearts and minds of the savy world ‘net surfer.
Within a couple days of the launch of http://www.ahmadinejad.ir/, Technorati listed it as the 3,722 most popular blog on the internet. Even more impressive (or disturbing, however you look at it) is that it’s the only blog from a sitting head of state.
So why would a sitting head of state turn to the blogosphere, much less the internet, to garner global support for his wacky ideals and agendas? Well, for one, it’s a cheap way to get through to people, and two, he can say whatever he wants to (fact or fiction) to appeal to who ever he wants to.
In essenece, it’s allowing people to get information right from the horses mouth, even though the horse may be a little (or a lot) crazy.
Leave no doubt, I think the guy has a political agenda that is not so far from a Hitler-esque way of doing business, but he’s realized the value of the blogosphere.

Ahmadinejad is very media savvy. Did you see that interview on 60 minutes? He is a smart cookie, he knows how to influence. I dated a Persian way back in college who I am still friends with. I like getting his perspective on events in the Near East. His family was very well off and were related to the shah via his second wife (the last one was his third wife). ANYWAY he thinks Ahmadinejad is savvy, and thinks that alot of what Ahmadinejad (known as A from here on out) says is to win over the crazies in his area. He does not think A or anyone in Iran intends to bomb Israel, as, he says, Israel is more Arab than anything else (including those of the Jewish faith, as there are Jewish Arabs). Let’s hope my friend is right.

Good insight, finance girl. The guy is very ‘net savvy, that’s for sure!
Yes, I did see the 60 minutes interview, but I wasn’t impressed. It was obviously set up so that he couldn’t be blindsided by tough questions.
On top of trying to appease the crazies in his own country, you have to realize that Amahdinejad is also trying to win over Americans as well.
I think he plays a tough game of poker, but when the chips are on the table he really doesn’t want a skirmish with the U.S. While we’d be outnumbered on the ground for sure, our technology is far superior and could initiate great damage to his country from the skies where the Iranian technology is lacking.
Ahmadinejad, to a much greater extent than our President, is merely a face for his government. He’s trying to befriend people from both extremes, but he’s taken it so far that he’s losing credibility.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out…
